Amelia Jane is the terror of the toy cupboard! Always playing tricks on the other toys, she squirts Tom the soldier with a siphon of water, and gets Teddy to carry her home without even knowing it. The toys get their own back sometimes, but Amelia Jane just goes straight on being as bad as ever!
Many adults fondly remember Enid Blyton's children's books, which continue to delight generations of children into the 21st century.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Enid Blyton was born in London in 1897. She trained as a kindergarten teacher, learning the Froebel and Montessori methods, and soon after began writing. Her first book, Child Whispers, appeared in 1922. In 1924 she was commissioned to write The Enid Blyton Book of Fairies.
The Wishing Chairfirst appeared in 1937 and the fist Amelia Janein 1939, but Blyton became a household name only in the 1950s with the publication of Noddy. At this time, she began to attract unfavourable criticism from reviewers, librarians and educationalists, but, despite this, sales increased dramatically.
Blyton's health deteriorated in the early 1960s and she died in 1968. She left a legacy of favourite children's books including the Famous Fiveseries, the Faraway Treebooks, the Mysteriesseries, and many others. Enid Blyton is one of the most successful writers of the 20th century.
