Geoff from Wamboin, NSW says, “Excellent value, works well and gives a great picture. Some people have bagged this device, but apart from requiring a fairly strong TV signal from the aerial,( it needs at least 71% as indicated on the info screen) works perfectly. I put a 320gb drive in mine.... no problems.”

Ron from Oxenford, QLD says, “This is a great unit. Installed an 80Gbyte
spare drive to the IDE cables. Everthing works better than I expected. The receiver is very sensitive. Pause live (time shift) TV. The quaility of the recordings is so good that it is impossible to tell it is a recording.”

Alan from Dandenong South, VIC says, “This is a very cheap PVR. Put in a spare 80GB hard drive connected to the tv. I couldn't be happier. Most units are around $400.”

SquareEyes from Bendigo, Vic says, “All up, very happy with this unit, I have 2!
Very cheap PVR if you have an old hard drive lying around.
Only bad points are:
Needs good signal strength, Bit Noisy, Can't save or watch movies on USB”

Waz from Vic says, “Works well - records well & am happy with the 2 I bought”

Karen from Hectorville, SA says, “This is the most fantastic idea. I bought 160GB 3.5" IDE Hard Drive for $90 (inc. installation) & that equals over 108 hours of recording before needing to reformat disc which is easy & takes moments. U gotta get 1 & I'm no techie so it really is easy to use.”

Leon from TOCUMWAL, NSW says, “A little ripper. Works great, bung in a spare
IDE HD (mine is 250GB) and set to record at whatever time and it does just that. Excellent quality picture on all channels even here in the bush. Simple to operate and set up.”

Gail from Dapto, NSW says, “Exactly what I was after. I had just purchased one with a hard drive for $170 (that was the cheapest one around and a last of stock item). Turns out it is exactly the same, just differnt outside casings and brand.Same manual and program system. Plus I had a dvd recorder with a hard drive that was not working (the dvd was faulty)so instead of forking out a fortune to have it fixed I just took the drive out of it and can now still record all my favourite tv shows. It is only a standard definition set box so it will not pick up the high definition channels but you still get all the other standard ones such as win, prime, ten, abc & sbs crystal clear , plus the extras like ABC2 and extra SBS. Was easy to set up.”

jim from cairns, QLD says, “I bought the set top box about 6 weeks ago and not being electronically minded I had a few problems setting it up,but now I have it up and running after I bought a 160gb HDD and it was formatted in seconds. The picture on the TV is excellant and no problems recording with it.It is a very good buy and quick delivery too.”

David from Mount Maria, QLD says, “Well I am more than happy so far. Everything I have recorded so far has been a success. In the system info for the DVX, it seems to be an LG software program.
I have a LG 47LG70YD and I can't find a fault with the playback so far. Like a lot of cheap items, time is the killer.”

Adrian from Hervey BAy, QLD says, “This truly is a bargain !! Easy to set up, dead easy to install and format hard drive, easy to use. Takes a bit to get used to no front display (to see what's going on) but the on screen info more than made up for it. I am in a known "Digital TV deadspot", but get 98% quality with 53% signal. Great Stuff !!”

Hans from Roseworthy, SA says, “Unit worked ok for a few weeks then the signal got pixelated and breaks up even tho TV on same aerial is OK PLUS it has stopped recording even though the booking list is current and correct causing me to miss my favourite programs!!”

McRobbo from MONS, QLD says, “Great value and works well just as everyone else states but WARNING... the USB connector is for connecting an audio playback device not for connecting the box to your computer as I thought and also it does not have a set and forget record function like your old VHS recorder but still does a nice job recording to the hard disk.... but for $50 its a bargain.”

ANITA from QLD says, “great product, easy to fit. can not fault. comes with 12 month product warrenty as well. very pleased customer!! recommended for sure!!”

Gerard from Sydney, NSW says, “Brilliant - $60 for a PVR player.
Works great - purchased a 500gig IDE Hard drive today for it. Firmware can see the entire disk. There is around 370 hours of recording time!
Im sure other PVR systems are better but currently they cost up to $300 or more! This one cost me $60 for the unit and $110 for the HDD. A total of $170!
My only issue with it is that the remote isn't too strong. It doesn't have fancy features like twin tuners but for $60 including postage who is complaining!”

Dianne from Boorowa, NSW says, “Bitterly dissapointed with this item, we have what I consider an excellent TV Signal reception, but this constantly skips sections all through the recorded program, it is virtually useless. I would not recommend it to anyone.”

Andrew from Springwood, QLD says, “Great device and solid picture however does not receive many of the digital channels. Appears fixed to the old digital channel mapping and as such misses channels such as 7, 10 and 10 One.
If you are purchasing this device to watch 10 One then don't... it won't receive it no matter how good your reception to that channel is.”

Jane from Coburg, VIC says, “Great unit for the price. I got this about 6 months ago as a back-up when my main HDD recorder (an LG) failed for the second time. No problems so far - it picks up digital channels just fine. Easy to install my own HDD for recording programs. Only negative is the built-in menu - the user interface is dreadful. Really clunky. But since I use this as a spare machine that doesn't worry me too much.”

PJ from Beckenham, WA says, “This Set Top Box is awesome. Put in the old hard disk, hooked it up, formatted in seconds and wow, it works awesome!! My channels never looked so good and it's not even HD. The sound is crisp and all in all a great purchase. We can even pause live TV...who would have thunk it?”

Shane from Charlton, VIC says, “This is a pretty good device. intuitive, easy to use and straight forward.
Instruction manual could be a little bit more expansive, but overall am very impressed with this product.
It's a "Do Buy'er".”

Marc from Towen Mountain, QLD says, “Excellent value for money. I had my doubts but thought it worth the risk so I ordered one to play with. It impressed me immediately, being so easy to load up with a spare drive and then set up. No HD but then the unit is clearly sold as a SD tuner. Yes, it needs a good signal- ours is border line at 70% indicated but it still works perfectly. Yes, the remote is indeed weak if used at deep angles or across large rooms but then we use a Logitech remote (also from Deals Direct!). I was so happy with it, I bought a second one for the kid's rumpus room! Cost less than one month's subscription to Austar with the kid's channels, which we have now cancelled entirely!”

Awryt from Cheltenham, VIC says, “I’ve had one DVX555U running a very small 10.2G seagate (yes, way too small but it was just an old spare to trial the DVX). Only gripe was lack of editing features (e.g Partial Delete and/or Split) and you must have signal strengths > 70% to avoid dropouts but other than that, great for the price. On that basis, just bought another DVX555U and also upgraded to two new WD320GB HDDs.
Big Problem: Seems to Record ok but then only blank screen with no audio in Playback, for the duration of the recording. Same blank Playback on both units with either drive. However, tried installing a borrowed 500GB Seagate, and Playback is fine, therefore it’s not the DVX units and must be the 320G WD HDDs. Yes, they’re installed as Single/Master, can be seen by the DVX555U and have been formatted. I haven’t been able to find any suggested fixes on-line. Any ideas or suggestions greatly appreciated.”

Ken from RINGWOOD EAST, VIC says, “Works well, very good value for money. As a PVR with the installation of a hard drive makes it unbelievable value. Easy recording and perfect playback. Software did freeze on one occasion but that happens with a lot of electronic gear at some point. Highly recommended. Thanks DD.”

Graeme from Croydon North, VIC says, “So far, so good. Gives better digital reception than my previous more expensive STB. I have put in a 500GB drive and have about 380 hours of recording time.
The few things recorded so far have pretty good quality. Can skip frames if the digital signal is not of the highest quality.”

Data from Christies Beach, SA says, “Mixed results. It can't seem to find many stations in my area, while another cheap digital box can get almost all of them. Adding a signal booster didn't help much. Also note that it can be a tight squeeze to get the hard drive in - get a friend with small hands to help if you can. I'm sure if I could bump my signal strength it would be fine. Also had some issues formatting the drive, but I see a max size of 160G listed now. I only had a 320G spare”

Johnathon from Adelaide says, “Great set top box, nice features.
i bought the box as a set top box, not for the recorder, but will use in the future for recording.
Nice design, easy to use.
Controller is abit weak though.
overall, very good for $50.”

Bianca from North Mackay, QLD says, “Excellent product but I recomend you print out the info provided on this web site as the manual does not help with details for the separate purchasing of a hard drive. If you believe the manual (as I did silly me!) then you would think that it was compatible with any hard drive...but the cables will only fit the one detailed by deals direct. Congrats deals direct for providing the necessary info.”

Helen from West Wodonga, VIC says, “Had serious trouble with this one. The channels it picks up are brilliant but, will only pick up 7,9, and SBS and then only 1 of those pain in the butt.
I will try again when I have the patience to sit in front of the tv and work it all out properly, I have to be doing something wrong”

ALAN from MODANVILLE, NSW says, “The STB manual leaves a bit to be desired, but once you navigate round the machine, particularly with the addition of the HDD, it is a dream.”

Iain from CALAMVALE, QLD says, “Fantastic product. It even records subtitles and my spare 80GB (i think it was a 80GB drive anyway) drive can record about 72 hours worth of free to air TV. The only downside is the remote has a delayed reaction when you press a button (maybe it's just like it's owner). Definitely recommend this to everyone.”
