Tyrrell's Lost Block Merlot 2008

The Lost Block range was named following the 1993 vintage when it was mistakenly allowed to ripen for a longer period than usual. You could say we literally lost the plot! Over the years, a number of wines have joined the Lost Block label, all deliberately crafted in the same soft and approachable style that has made Lost Block Semillon such a success. Lost Block wines are deliberately made to be fruit-laden, fresh, vibrant and easy to drink.

Winemaker's Notes - The fruit was transported to Tyrrell’s Ashmans winery in the Hunter Valley for fermentation in a mix of both open vats and potter tanks. 50% of the wine was matured in two and three year old French barriques. The remaining 50% was kept out of wood to retain the freshly fermented primary fruit characters of the wine. Alc 14%.

Tasting Notes - Vibrant purple red in colour and a lifted nose of dark berry and currants with typical beetroot tobacco hints. The soft fresh fruit flavours are balanced with velvety French oak tannins.

Serving Suggestions - Perfect as on its own or as an accompaniment to pasta, pizza and red meat dishes.
