The lead up to the 2009 harvest in the Riverina was one of the best on record with refreshing rains during spring and mild temperatures during December resulting in fruit with intensity and structure not seen for several years. This all changed at the end of January when an unprecedented heat wave saw temperatures soar to 40° plus for two weeks stalling the ripening process for three weeks. Despite the heatwave it was a good vintage overall producing some excellent wines.

Selected parcels of fruit were harvested in excellent condition and gently pressed to retain varietal character and freshness. Warm fermentation and a wide variety of yeast strains were used to add complexity and texture. 47% of blend was fermented on American oak staves for up to 20 days.

Tasting notes:

Straw colour with fresh green hues. Lifted aromas of peach and nectarine complemented with some very subtle vanillin oak. The palate is soft with a creamy texture and is balanced by fine acidity to give a clean and very long finish. Try with chicken, seafood or pasta dishes.
