INTRODUCTION
One of the regional blends synonymous with Margaret River is Semillon Sauvignon Blanc. Vasse Felix has pioneered this wine style since 1987 and now the term ‘Classic Dry White’ is widely recognised. The vibrant lifted, fruit-driven style combines the sweet and savoury elements of a cool to temperate climate. The classic tropical, passionfruit aromatics of Sauvignon Blanc combine with the citrus, floral and slightly grassy notes of Semillon, making a refreshingly clean, juicy and zesty style of wine.

WINEMAKERS COMMENTS
The season started with beautiful mild spring conditions, resulting in even vine development. January welcomed some lovely sunshine and the beautiful weather remained for the rest of the season, ripening the fruit easily. The Semillon & Sauvignon Blanc displayed vibrant perfumes and we had a remarkable year for lovely natural acid balance. Flavours appear generally a little riper than previous years, with the Semillon showing more lemon and
subtle hints of floral aromas rather than the herbaceous notes that can dominate in some years. The Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc vineyards are picked at reasonably low Baume, capturing fine, high note aromas, crisp primary fruit flavours with good acid structure. The Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc juices were then fermented under cool conditions with specially selected yeasts to ensure the aromas and flavours are accentuated for this classic Margaret River blend. The Classic Dry White is all about pure fruit expression and is fermented without the use of oak.

TASTING NOTES
The 2009 Classic Dry White is a lovely pale straw in colour with bright green tinges. A beautifully vibrant wine with fresh aromas of passionfruit, guava and lemongrass, the palate explodes with fresh, clean acidity which cuts through the succulent tropical fruit flavours upfront, while lingering flavours of passionfruit and guava travel along the mid-palate. The wine finishes with a sprinkle of lime juice and a dry mineral note. The 2009 release is a fabulous wine showing the pristine fruit characters of Margaret River Semillon Sauvignon Blanc.
